sometimes, its difficult for pple to understand us because they're not in our position, and they might never get to it.
today i was reminded that i'm very priveledged. i come from a very fortunate family and i've not been exposed to the many harsh realities that actually exist. e.g. breakdown of families, juvenile crimes. i think i recognize this. im trying not to let my obliviousness turn into apathy.
today was incredibly hectic for me. i didnt even get time to check my hotmail. i rushed into the office and went straight to JS cuz we were going to fam court. it was pouring outside. sudden spell of heavy rain. in chambers, we managed to turn the contested divorce back to a uncontested divorce by having the opposing lawyers get their client to agree on the costs being recorded in the decree nisi, but not to be used against us in the ancillary stage. that was wat we wanted, and we got it cuz the judge today was damn good. and she impressed me totally by making a very powerful statement: i dun see why, in my position as a judge, i cant go against the precedent case and make this agreement. woah. in my mind, i stood up and clapped. haha. so we went back to the office happily.
the answer and cross-petition that i helped JS draft for this divorce proceedings was only alive for one day cuz it was filed yday and today, the court granted leave for it to be withdrawn since the divorce is going to be uncontested. oh well. all the hours and days i put in for dat court paper...hmm...
after i got back, i got started on this new case that JS has been assigned to. a corporate client. did some research on the company, the charge, the details involved and then in the aftnn, went for discussion with JS and our quite-a-big-shot team leader, RDL. got instructions to research on corporation/ company's criminal liability. i was rather frustrated cuz i couldnt find anything in the books they passed to me. but after JS brought me to the library and showed me exactly where to research, i finally found some good material from the hoards of company law journals and texts. oof. now im deeply satisfied with my research and work today cuz it was fruitful and helpful to them.
now i'm really happy with the work piled up for me at drew cuz i get to be exposed to more stuff. e.g. im now following the corporate client's case right from the beginning and i know wats going on. -perfect- company law's not as boring as i thought. and company act's actually rather simple. at least for now.
shall go get ready for piano lesson now.
